DESIGN BREAKFAST FORUM

This blog was updated on 21 June to reflect the Award’s new name for 2012. A Design Breakfast was held last month at the State Library of Queensland to mark the launch of call-for-entries to the 2012 Queensland Smart Design Awards (formerly the Queensland Premier’s Design Awards) . Around 100 of the state’s leading and emerging designers and design champions came together to network with like-minded individuals, and to listen to talks held by the 2011 Premier’s Design Fellow Nicola Lloyd and Emerging Design Leader Yen Trinh. The event was MC’d by Queensland Design Council member and  2010 Young Queenslander of the Year Yassmin Abdel-Magied, and also featured talks by Christian Duell, the Manager of the Asia Pacific Design Library, and Joanna Roxburgh, the Principal Arts Adviser (Design), Arts Queensland. A transcript of the Design Breakfast Forum can be accessed here. Keep an eye out soon for an audio podcast of the Design Breakfast presentations. In the meantime what better time to remind designers and design thinkers that entries for the 2012 Queensland Smart Design Awards close in eleven days, 23 April, 2012! The prize acknowledges a professional and emerging designer or design thinker who has contributed towards good design in business, lifestyle and innovation in Queensland.
