Alexander Lotersztain ‘Twig’

Twig would probably be one of my favourite products.

Originally designed for the Southbank Institute of Technology, in collaboration with architects Cox Rayner and under the curatorship of Jacqueline Armistead, this project was a great opportunity to work on a design focused on addressing the public seating needs of students and clients.

I developed the concept of traditional bench seating to create a new form where there was seating on all sides and which included both a modularity and an organic freedom not previously seen in public furniture.

Twig now sells internationally with Street and Garden in Australia and the United States and Escofet in Europe. Twig has been one of Escofet’s best selling products two years in a row and has been specified for public spaces in Paris and Rome and Plaza Real in Madrid. Twig also features in Sydney’s Olympic Park and won a Delta Spanish Award in 2009.

Twig now also come in a plastic, light and upholstered versions under Derlot Editions.

I think it’s great to see a product designed in Queensland for a Queensland project has gone global and captured the imagination of users world wide.
