Based in Tingalpa, Ferra Engineering is a privately owned company with 50 staff, and came out on top from more than 17,500 aerospace suppliers from 50 countries from around the world to receive the coveted industry award.
Ferra Engineering specialises in the design, manufacturing, assemblage and testing of aerospace structures and sub-systems, and provides services to local and overseas companies.
Ferra Engineering manufactures components for a series of Boeing commercial aeroplanes and Super Hornet fighter planes, and developed the partnership with Boeing through the Federal Government’s Global Supply Chain program, which links major contracts to smaller businesses in Australia.
With a staff of more than 1.2 million Boeing is recognised as being one of the world’s foremost aerospace company, and is known to invest significantly in design and manufacturing. The company boasts over 28,000 suppliers within its international network, and annually purchases more than US$50 billion in goods and services.
The Hon. Jason Clare, Federal Government Minister for Defence Materiel, described Ferra’s win as an “outstanding achievement”, and added that “it bodes well for the future, not just for Ferra Engineering, but for the Australian market.”
The award was announced at the Boeing Supplier of the Year gala held in Chicago on 19 April 2012, where Boeing acknowledged 14 companies and two academic institutions for their exceptional performance and contributions to the company’s overall success during 2011.
Jim McNerney, chairman, president and CEO of The Boeing Company commented on the value that these recipients bring to their company, saying: “these supplier-partners excelled in delivering results, performance and customer satisfaction in 2011, and they play a key role in enabling Boeing to be a global leader in technology and innovation.”
